effects of childhood trauma

Many adults don’t realize how much their childhood still affects them. As kids, we often learn to stay quiet, avoid problems, or make others happy especially if things at home were hard.

These behaviors helped us feel safe back then, but they can hold us back today. They can make it hard to speak up, feel confident, or be your true self.

Signs of childhood trauma include:

  1. Trouble trusting people

  2. Feeling scared or worried a lot

  3. Getting upset easily or feeling angry

  4. Trying to make everyone happy all the time

  5. Not knowing how to say “no” or set boundaries

  6. Feeling like you’re not good enough

  7. Avoiding conflict or hard conversations

  8. Having a hard time talking about your feelings

  9. Feeling disconnected or like something is “off”

  10. Always blaming yourself, even when it’s not your fault

Once that safety is in place, therapy can help you explore the past, release old pain, and build healthier ways to connect. When childhood trauma is part of your story, having a grounded and supportive space allows you to begin processing what happened with clarity and compassion.

Together, we can make sense of past experiences, understand the impact they’ve had on your relationships and sense of self, and begin nurturing the parts of you that didn’t receive the care or protection they deserved. Through this work, clients learn to tend to their emotional needs, reparent their inner child, and create patterns of connection that feel secure, authentic, and aligned with who they are becoming.
